Frequently asked questions
Here you will find answers to common questions you may have when visiting Romney Lane Homestead.
If you still have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us and we will get back to you asap. Is the Homestead private? Yes! The homestead is located on the other end of the farm to Ian and Steph, a 4-5 minute drive. It is down a long driveway & has extensive grounds/garden & farmland surrounding the house so it's very private. The only things you’ll be greeted by over the back fence is a farm animal; the closest human contact is the possibility of spotting the farmer moving stock or in his tractor in a nearby paddock. Do you take more than one booking at a time? No. We only ever take one booking at a time, so the house will only be shared with whoever you bring with you! You have exclusive use of the homestead. Do you have free Wifi? Yes. We have Starlink wifi connected and a smart TV, please use personal logins for streaming services. Is there good cell phone reception? Cell phone reception is not always great at the homestead, but you are able to connect to wifi calling. Can we self-cater? Absolutely! Romney Lane kitchen is a fully equipped country kitchen with an impressive Ilve oven (electric oven, gas stovetop) with cookware, bakeware, & utensils. The pantry includes the basics (olive oil, salt, pepper, tea & coffee). Where are the closest food supply shops in case we run out of something? There is a local dairy located in Cheltenham village approx. 6 km away with most pantry stables & some local produce. Otherwise Feilding town is a 15 min drive for supermarket shops. Are there any cafes or restaurants nearby? Yes, we have some lovely country cafes and pubs in the area, check out this page. The closest cafe is in the village of Kimbolton, Hansens Cafe & store (10min drive) The Apiti Tavern ( 15 min drive) is a great country pub to get an authentic experience & some great food. As much as we are animal lovers here on the farm and adore furry friends, unfortunately our farm livestock & vaccination policies do not allow visiting dogs. Should we bring any specific to the farm? Always throw in a jumper/jacket as we can have four seasons in a day here in Kiwitea! If you want to explore outside the homestead gates, some sturdy shoes or gummies are a good idea - we do have a small selection of pre-loved gumboots at the backdoor if you forget yours! On arrival you will receive a locally sourced selection of breakfast essentials for a hearty country breakfast, Including homemade granola, Three Oaks Organic Milk & Yoghurt (seasonal) Spreads & Breads for toasting (locally made),Seasonal fruit selection & Farm fresh eggs. Do you offer laundry facilities? No, sorry. However, Feilding Laundry is a self-service laundry only 15 minutes away. If you have a laundry emergency let us know and we can help out!. Can we just walk through farm paddocks ourselves? For health and safety reasons, we only allow you to wander through our farm laneway by yourselves (please refer to the farm map on arrival). We do ask you to check-in with us before you leave to ensure we are not moving stock through laneways, this may disrupt farmer Ian moving stock. You will however get to see sheep and cattle on the farm in their paddocks, admire them over the fence as you are passing by.
